Overview

Financial instability is one of the most significant challenges faced by survivors of domestic violence when seeking safety and independence. Many survivors report that financial concerns — such as the loss of income, housing, childcare, healthcare, or access to credit — are key reasons they stay with or return to an abusive partner. Helping survivors build financial stability is essential to ensuring long-term safety for themselves and their children.

The Economic Empowerment Initiative is dedicated to providing practical training, resources, and support to help survivors overcome financial barriers and move toward independence. This includes guidance on avoiding predatory lending and scams, improving credit, accessing affordable housing, understanding personal finance, and pursuing opportunities such as savings, homeownership, and entrepreneurship.

We are committed to supporting survivors through the implementation of housing protections under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and identifying additional community-based resources. Recognizing the challenges of affordable housing, we also work to explore practical, innovative solutions that help families find safe and stable homes.
