Training and Technical Assistance

DVP serves a critical role in providing training and technical assistance to certified domestic violence centers and community partners at the state and local level. Training and technical assistance (TA) supports both core services at centers and additional programs. DVP staff coordinate a multitude of initiatives that are designed to support the certified domestic violence centers in providing best practices in working with survivors of domestic violence. State level domestic violence organizations provide technical assistance and training to local domestic violence programs and serve as critical partners for coordination of statewide services and emerging issues that impact survivors and their children when discussing policy. DVP works to improve domestic violence intervention and prevention in Florida by ensuring cross-coordinated, best practice solutions are implemented and sustained.

Training and technical assistance is focused on increasing accessibility to trauma-informed care, and cultural responsiveness in services. Through this focus, domestic violence services are better able to assess barriers to services and work to meet the needs of all survivors. DVP understands that culture, identity, history, and many other facets of identity can influence the services available and how they are received. DVP programming addresses this though comprehensive anti-oppression training regarding disabilities, communities of color, language access, gender and sexual orientation as well as economic status. Training and technical assistance materials are tailored to the needs of the local community and often include topics such as Empowerment-Based Advocacy, Ethical Communication, and working with survivors from marginalized communities.
